Each month
We patch the operating system and check the RAID.
Each quarter
We restore-test the backup and show that a copy can be opened.
Maintain, repair, upgrade, or replace
A slow server is not automatically a new server.
Maintain
The server is under five years old and the disks are healthy. Keep the firmware current, clear the dust, and restore-test the backup every quarter.
Repair
One disk or one power supply has failed. Swap that part. A single fault is not a reason to buy a new server.
Upgrade
The processor is fine, but memory or the disks cannot keep up with AutoCount, SQL, or Sage. Add memory or enterprise SSD and keep the box.
Replace
The server is past seven years, the maker no longer supports it, or the board keeps failing. Plan the move before it stops the line.

The line was stopped. Fines and scrap came to about RM145,000.
A stamping line froze mid-shift
The server running the MES ran out of memory. Weld specs and dispatch stopped. We moved that line onto a host sized for 24/7 production, so one memory spike does not stop the shift.
